An XXL wooden frame for the future Cambium factory of Charpentes Fournier

Designed by the Vendée architecture agency Pelleau & Associés Architectes, the future Cambium building by Charpentes Fournier is intended to be a demonstrator and material for short circuits, innovations and working comfort. Now completed, the work on the wooden frame has given way to the construction of the second work for an inauguration at the end of 2025. 

On November 29, the company Charpentes Fournier, a subsidiary of Soprema Entreprises specializing in the manufacture of glued laminated wood frames, celebrated the end of work on the frame of its future Cambium production site located in Poiré-surVie (85) . “Despite particular weather conditions this year, we managed to stick to the schedule,” explains Sébastien Viala, CEO of the company. The wooden frame was put in place in eight weeks [and] required 17 exceptional convoys to transport 57 beams measuring 35 m in length! » A major project which gave rise to a 25,000 m2 building more than 400 m long for which “more than 1,700 m3 of wooden beams were manufactured, delivered and installed”, continues the manager. Completed at the end of the year, the covered enclosure construction site will be followed in early 2025 by the finishing work for delivery around next spring. The machines will then be installed and tested in April, and the move into the new premises should take place by the end of 2025.

Local businesses

A showcase for the different professions of the Soprema Entreprises group, and a demonstrator work in terms of environmental sobriety, the site of the future building in Vendée advocates the use of the right material in the right place. It is in this sense that the various elements of the structure were produced by local companies. If the Charpentes Fournier teams were responsible for the design, size and installation of the wooden frame, the metal raceways were made and implemented by the GH company, based in Clisson (44) and also subsidiary of Soprema Entreprises. At the top of the building, a cooling roof will complete this mix of materials. Equipped with a reflective membrane on the warehouse side and Sopranature green waterproofing on the office side, it will have photovoltaic roof terraces, made with Soprasolar systems, which will ensure the building's self-consumption of electricity. All designed by the Soprema Entreprises Nantes agency. A virtuous project, anchored in its territory, which will, once delivered, create around twenty additional jobs in the region.

A virtuous factory at the cutting edge of technology

The future Cambium factory in Poiré-sur-Vie aims to be exemplary both environmentally and in terms of quality of life at work. In this sense, it will integrate the latest generation tools which will optimize the comfort and safety of employees, while doubling the company's production capacity.  In addition to a new 70 m automatic bending press, the workshop will notably host two other 5-axis CNC machining centers directly connected to the design office to improve production flow.  Equipment that will also reduce waste and energy costs at the factory.
